A Woolworths employee has sent shoppers racing to get their hands on a $5.50 item – and she’s already predicting they’re going to sell out fast.

The supermarket chain has launched its traditional hot cross buns – three months before Easter – but it’s one of the new flavours that’s got everyone talking.

Worker Clare broke the news on social media that the mud cake-flavoured hot cross buns have landed in stores across Australia – and they’re already flying off shelves.

She made a video showing herself heating the indulgent buns in the microwave for 30 seconds, before pulling them apart to reveal the chocolate fudge oozing from the centre.

‘I’ve got a feeling these aren’t going to last long on the shelves,’ she said.

‘Guys, they look and smell insane.’

As she tore the hot cross buns in half, steam puffed out and the melted chocolate spilled out, leaving Clare’s jaw dropping in amazement.

‘Oh my god yum,’ she said.

Taking a bite out of the tasty hot cross buns, Clare gushed: ‘Holy moly.’

Her colleagues were seen taste testing the dessert, confirming they were delicious.

‘Run, don’t walk,’ Clare added.

The video has been viewed than 600,000 times – with many saying they couldn’t wait to give it a go.

‘OMG I need to try these,’ one shared.

‘Stop – I’m on a no-sugar diet,’ another revealed.

‘These are going to be the reason I fail my New Year’s resolution of eating healthier,’ one joked.

‘I’m gonna have to sneak these somehow so my husband doesn’t see,’ another said.

One added: ‘I can confirm they are amazing.’

However, some suggested they were going to wait until Easter to get hot cross buns.

‘But guys, what’s the rush? There’s three months until Easter. Chill a little,’ one said.

‘It’s literally January,’ another shared.

‘Why do hot cross buns come out straight after Christmas? I think it’s far too early,’ one added.

Meanwhile, popular food content creator Russell Stuart, known as Russ Eats, was blown away by the new hot cross buns, rating them a near-perfect 9.5 out of 10.
