Guest At Luxurious Plaza Hotel In New York City Outraged After Discovering Staggering Cost Of Ice Cream Sundae

the woman, named Jully Patel, was seen sitting in a white robe with her mother-in-law inside their hotel room at the Plaza as a waiter entered with a cart filled with goodies.

It contained a massive silver tray that had 16 scoops of vanilla and chocolate ice cream in the center topped with whipped cream.

Surrounding it was an array of toppings like sprinkles, M&Ms, brownie bits and cherries, and various sauces like fruit sauce, caramel sauce and chocolate sauce.

But when Patel was handed the bill, she was stunned to see the total: $477.98.

‘My mother-in-law ordered a $500 ice cream sundae to the room without telling me the price,’ she said. ‘When the waiter handed me the bill, that’s when I realized.’

She first shared the video back in September, but it recently went viral after a popular X (formerly Twitter) account reshared it on the platform earlier this week.

‘You can now order Kevin’s Hone Alone 2 ice cream sundae at The Plaza Hotel, is it worth almost $500?’ they captioned the post.

It sparked a heated discussion about the cost of the treat, as viewers rushed to the replies to share their thoughts.

‘I don’t even get how they think that price tag is justifiable,’ one user wrote.

‘That’s ridiculous,’ penned another, while someone else pointed out: ‘You can make this at home for $25.’

‘I wouldn’t pay that much for ice cream,’ announced a different person.

‘Wow that looks amazing but $500? That’s just insane. Nope,’ read a fifth tweet.

‘$500 for a gallon of ice cream with candy and sauce topping is RIDICULOUS,’ said a sixth.

In Home Alone 2, the sequel for the 1990s smash hit Home Alone, Culkin’s character mistakenly boards a plane to New York while his family flies for Christmas vacation to Florida.

While in New York, the lost Kevin McAllister checks into the Plaza Hotel using his dad’s credit card, where he orders the now-famous ice cream sundae.

The Plaza Hotel also offers its Kevin-inspired Home Alone: Fun In New York package, with the perks including a limousine ride, a large cheese pizza, and the ‘Home Alone Sundae.’

The price varies ‘depending on the room type’ but it’s been said it has a starting price of around $2,000 plus tax.

Back in January, two guests at the Plaza also went viral after they shared their reaction to the sky-high price of the sundae.

Friends Amira Harvey and Jenna Sinatra were enjoying a luxurious night at the lavish New York hotel when they ordered the dessert, unknowing how much it cost.

‘Amira was so excited for the 16 flavor ice cream from the Home Alone movie,’ Sinatra said in a now-viral TikTok video about it.

In the video, room service arrived at their door with the massive ice cream dish, before a shocked Sinatra signed the check.

In a comment, Sinatra said that while the dessert was ‘good, no ice cream is worth $500.’
