Savannah Guthrie Confirms Date For Her Return To Today Show After Sudden Break Due To Vocal Surgery

Savannah Guthrie has confirmed when she will be returning to the Today show following her vocal cord surgery.

The co-host, 54, has been absent from the NBC program since mid-December after being forced to take time off to undergo a procedure.

Making a silent guest appearance on the show on January 12, Guthrie mouthed that she would be back sitting alongside Craig Melvin ‘next week.’

Fans can expect to see her sitting in Studio 1A at Rockefeller Center in New York City from January 19.

Guthrie announced she would be taking a hiatus from the Today show last month so she could undergo the procedure.

During the December 19 episode, she said she had nodules on her vocal cords and a polyp that require removal.

She added that she would need to be on vocal rest and be ‘totally silent’ in the days that followed.

Addressing viewers at the time, Guthrie said: ‘Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit.

‘Well, I have found out what it is. I have vocal nodules and I also have a polyp.

‘It’s not a big, big deal, but I am going to have to have a surgery in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks, so this is my last day for a little while.’

Guthrie added that she was ‘really excited’ to have received her diagnosis after years of struggling to understand what was wrong.

She continued: ‘This has been going on for years, honestly, so to have a solution.’

Guthrie shared an update on her health on January 5 in which she confirmed her surgery had gone well.

Taking to Instagram, the mom-of-two uploaded a selfie in which she posed alongside a whiteboard that read, ‘All good! Thanks for prayers and love!’

Captioning the photo, she added: ‘See you soon!’

Joining the Today show from her home on January 12, Guthrie used a whiteboard to reveal what she has been doing to keep busy while she recovers.

She was unable to respond to questions vocally, so instead smiled, nodded and clapped on top of using the board.

She explained that she has been journaling, reading and painting to pass the time, adding that she is also ‘growing as a human.’

‘You were already a pretty great human before!’ co-host Melvin replied.

Guthrie also said that her children, Charley and Vale, commented that ‘even when you’re quiet, you’re still loud.’
