Anna Wintour Breaks Her Silence On Jeff Bezos And Lauren Sanchez Sponsoring Next Years Met Gala


Anna Wintour has revealed how she really feels about Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos’ support as they were revealed as lead sponsors of The Met Gala last week.

In a new interview with CNNWintour, 76, responded to criticism surrounding their role as sponsors, telling the outlet that Sánchez is a ‘great lover of costume and obviously of fashion.’

She said that she believes that Sánchez, 55, would be a ‘wonderful asset to the museum and the event.’

‘We’re very grateful for her incredible generosity,’ Wintour continued. ‘So we’re thrilled she’s part of the night.’

Earlier this month, the Met Museum and Vogue announced that ‘Costume Art’ will be the themeof the spring 2026 exhibition at the Costume Institute, which means celebrities need to start planning their lavish designer ensembles accordingly.

The New York City museum will pair historical and contemporary garments from the Costume Institute for the exhibition, which will be loosely divided into three categories, including the classical body and the nude body, aging bodies and pregnant bodies, and the anatomical body.

This year’s gala marks the first in Wintour’s new role as Vogue’s Global Creative Director and Chief Content Officer for Condé Nast, with Chloe Malle taking over as Head of Editorial Content for American Vogue.

Malle’s parents are actress Candice Bergen and French filmmaker Louis Malle.

Wintour has famously been incredibly hands-on with the Met Gala over the years, and is credited with making it the splashy A-list affair it has become, beloved by celebrities like Rihanna, the Kardashians, Blake Lively, Zendaya and .

In addition to Sánchez and Bezos, the other sponsors of this year’s event are French designer brand Saint Laurent and Condé Nast, Vogue’s publisher.

The decision comes just months after Sánchez appeared on the cover of Vogue’s June 2025 digital issuewhich was all about her lavish Venetian wedding to the Amazon tycoon.

The magazine spread showed behind-the-scenes photos of her wedding and dress fitting, which was designed for her by Dolce & Gabbana.

The long-sleeve, lace gown had a curve-hugging fit, complete with a dramatic flared hem and high neckline that took over 900 hours of atelier work.

She also wore an elegant lace veil that trailed behind her, before changing into an Oscar de la Renta cocktail dress for her reception.

‘I’m very happy,’ Sánchez told the outlet at the time.

‘ than the dress, I’m happy that I’m getting married and I get to spend my life with my best friend, someone who sees me, someone who adores me, someone who I adore,’ she said about Bezos.

In June, the couple – who got engaged in 2023 – tied the knot in Italy with an equally star-studded guest list, which included Ivanka Trump, Oprah and Kim Kardashian.

The estimated $20 million, multi-day event also included a foam party on Bezos’ $500 million Koru yacht, a lavish pre-nuptial dinner and a post-wedding lunch at the iconic Harry’s Bar.

Sánchez was previously married to businessman Patrick Whitesell from 2005 to 2019, with whom she shares shares son Evan, 19, as well as 17-year-old daughter Ella.

She also shares son Nikko Gonzalez, 24, with ex Tony Gonzalez.
