KFC Issues Groveling Apology For Mocking Influencers Speech Impediment

Popular fast food chain KFC has issued a groveling apology for ‘mocking’ an influencer’s speech impediment after it came under fierce fire.

Jessie Yendle has racked up over 3.5 million followers on TikTok for documenting what it’s like to live with a stammer.

But last week, the UK-based social media star was left outraged after the fried chicken eatery appeared to poke fun at her stutter in a now-deleted video.

The official Instagram for KFC Macedonia used the sound of her talking during a recent TV show appearance layered over a dance beat to promote its products.

In the video, which has since been taken down, Yendle was heard stammering as KFC products flashed on the screen.

‘I don’t think they realize the true damage that they’ve done,’ she said. ‘It’s been seen over four million times, it breaks my heart.

‘It makes wonder if we’re going to be having this conversation once again. It’s gone too far now, it really has.

‘(My impediment is) just part of me, you know? With the videos that these brands are using, it makes you look like I’m just my speech impediment, and I’m so much than that.’

KFC has since publicly apologized, telling the Daily Mail that ‘mocking someone for their stammer is simply wrong.’

‘We are truly sorry that this happened and we have reached out directly to Jessica to apologize for the hurt she has experienced,’ the company said.

‘Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and mocking someone for their stammer is simply wrong.’

It added that the behavior in the video was ‘totally unacceptable and not tolerated at KFC.’

‘Every person who walks through our doors should feel welcome, valued, and safe to be themselves,’ KFC continued.

It also revealed that it has contacted STAMMA, an organization dedicated to ‘changing how people understand and react to stammering.’

‘We will see how we can work with them to make sure every voice is heard and appreciated at KFC,’ it concluded.

‘Our franchise partner in KFC North Macedonia will also contact Jessica to apologize and is reviewing how training can be implemented locally.’

Yendle also shared a message to KFC on her Instagram while highlighting some of her accomplishments, like her popular BBC radio show Unstoppable.

‘If you laughed or mocked my stutter… I’m talking to you @KFC… yes I stammer but guess what? I have presented a radio show,’ she began.

‘(I’m) being paid to speak and stutter freely on the radio as I interview aspiring people who overcome their own struggles in life.

She added: ‘NOTHING should ever be a TREND if it’s disrespecting and discriminating a disability, race, gender, sexuality or religion.

‘So I’m shining a light with this post as I represent the millions of people who stammer.
