uaetodaynews.com — France is investigating Apple on charges of violating user privacy
It was reported that the French authorities began an official investigation after a complaint filed by the French Federation for Human Rights, based on the testimony of former employee Thomas Le Bonnick, who worked in a company contracting with Apple.
Le Bonnick explained that in 2019 he worked at Globe Technical Services, which was receiving recordings of the voices of iPhone users as they interacted with the voice assistant Siri, with the aim of improving its performance.
He added that some of these recordings were not encrypted, which made it possible to identify the speakers. French authorities specialized in combating cybercrime are still investigating the case.
For its part, Apple denied using Siri data for any marketing purposes or selling it to third parties, and confirmed that since last January it has no longer kept audio recordings except after the user‘s explicit consent.
It is noteworthy that the company had announced in August 2019 that users can control the option to participate in the Siri improvement program or stop saving audio recordings via the device settings in the “Analysis and Improvements” section.
