Former ABC Stars T.J. Holmes And Amy Robach Share Secret To Their Relationship Three Years After Shock Affair

Former ABC stars T.J. Holmes, 48, and Amy Rob52, have revealed the secret to their romantic relationship three years after their shocking affair was brought to light.

Of course, the two former news anchors became household names in 2022, after Daily Mail revealed that the two were having an affair while they were both still married to their previous partners.

At the time, a series of pictures obtained exclusively by the Daily Mail told the tale of their steamy relationship as the couple enjoyed flirty post-filming sessions at a New York City bar, alone time in each other’s apartments and – two weeks before Thanksgiving – a weekend away in a secluded cottage in Upstate New York.

Despite the scandalous start, their relationship has weathered the storm, and the former Good Morning America 3 anchors got engaged this past October.

Now, they’ve revealed what they believe is key to a healthy relationship – and that’s making sure they have a solid foundation as friends first.

‘Friendship, the foundation of friendship, period, point blank,’ Holmes told People in a new interview at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball 2025, as Robach echoed: ‘Without a doubt.’

‘If you got a friend you love and you respect … you end up in a relationship that’s still the foundation of friendship,’ Holmes continued.

Robach also shared that it’s important to be able to laugh with your significant other.

‘If you can laugh with someone, you can live a long time with someone. You can get through almost anything if you can laugh together,’ she said.

During the interview, the two also shared their holiday plans – marking their first as an engaged couple.

Holmes said that they will spend the holidays in New York City with their families, and then later head out for a ‘little tropical getaway.’

Earlier this Fall, the two announced their engagement on an episode of their podcast, Amy and T.J.

They named the episode of the podcast ‘Robach-Holmes,’ an ode to their new last names.

‘We are sharing with all of you that we are engaged and we’ve been engaged for just about a month now,’ Robach announced at the time.

Holmes added, ‘We wanted to let you all know before anybody else was able to; we’ve learned that lesson, I guess, in the past about our relationship.’

Holmes explained during the podcast episode that Robach had been wearing her engagement ring out in public, but no one had seemed to leak the news.

Robach’s ring features a large yellow sapphire surrounded with smaller diamonds.

‘I was in three massive football stadiums three weekends in a row, wearing my engagement ring very proudly, very excitedly, and kept waiting for somebody to point it out or ask me, “Hey, what’s that?” And it never happened.’ Robach said.

‘We haven’t been keeping it a secret, but nobody asked!’ Holmes shared.

The TV stars first grew close after they both landed jobs at ABC, and when they became cohosts of GMA3 in 2020, their chemistry was undeniable.

After their affair was revealed, they were both fired from ABC, and filed for divorce from their respective partners.

Despite being shrouded in scandal, the couple put on a very public display of unity in the wake of the news, flaunting their love for the entire world to see as their previous marriages and jobs crumbled.

Robach wed her now-ex-husband, Melrose Place alum Andrew Shue, in February 2009, while Holmes tied the knot with his now-ex-wife, Marilee Fiebig, in 2010.
