The researcher added that the field of materials engineering represents the main driver of this development, as graphene aerogel – whose production has been localized locally – allows for significantly improving the performance of batteries. Chinese and American companies currently produce lead-acid batteries supported by carbon and graphene materials that are widely used, such as hybrid bicycle batteries in China, which number more than 30 million bicycles.

He pointed out that this technology increases battery life and storage capacity, which increases user satisfaction and enables new applications for it. The production mechanism relies on the synthesis of graphene aerogel doped with nitrogen and zinc oxide nanoparticles by a simple and low-cost chemical method, which gives the material high porosity and great ability to pass electrolytes.

The research concluded with the production of an experimental model of a lead-acid battery containing graphene plates at the positive and negative electrodes, and the test results showed a clear increase in operational life and capacity compared to traditional batteries. Currently, work is underway to manufacture these batteries in a private Iranian company to market them commercially in the near future.
