I Met A Nice Guy At The Pub And Gave Him My Number. Then I Woke Up To These Text Messages Blowing Up My Phone…
What began as an ordinary night out for one woman trying to find love turned into a disturbing ordeal.
The 28-year-old woman revealed on Reddit that she met a man at a bar, chatted briefly and gave him her number before heading home.
However she then received creepy messages which she later shared online, striking a nerve with many others who say they expose the dark side of modern dating.
The morning after the bar encounter, she discovered many messages she had not seen because her phone settings filtered texts from unknown senders.
When she came across the messages, she discovered the seemingly ‘nice guy’ had spent much of the night sending her a string of intense, unsolicited texts – none of which she had responded to.
In her post, the woman admitted there had already been a moment that made her uneasy before she left the bar.
As she typed her number into his phone, she described noticing he was holding a second device and that his contacts list appeared almost empty.
What began as an ordinary night out quickly spiralled into a chilling wake-up call for a 28-year-old woman navigating the brutal realities of modern dating
After meeting a man called James at a bar, chatting briefly and gaving him her number before heading home, the woman woke up to a a minefield of unsolicited text messages from him
‘I asked if it was a work phone and if he wasn’t really single,’ she wrote, calling it a ‘red flag’ that at the moment she chose to overlook.
Giving him the benefit of the doubt, she had casually suggested they might grab breakfast the next day.
Instead, she woke up to messages that swung between defensive, self-aggrandising and strangely possessive.
In one of the first texts, the man named James, accused her of giving him a wrong number ‘for a confidence boost’, before insisting he was ‘very single by choice’, a ‘dominate savage’ and declaring his standards were ‘extremely high’.
He went on to describe himself as ‘a real man’ who ‘goes directly after what he wants’, as well as addressing her as ‘little princess’ despite having known her for only minutes.
He also claimed he did not save anyone’s phone numbers because of his trust issues, before instructing her to meet him at a specific time and location the following evening.
As the hours passed, he continued messaging, also sending a barrage of song recommendations, all without receiving a single reply.
‘This is what dating has been like for me lately,’ she wrote, saying the experience left her frustrated with the current dating scene.
Her post quickly gained traction, with thousands of Reddit users expressing shock at the speed and intensity of the messages, many noting they were all sent within an 11-hour overnight window

‘My guy here had a full relationship, with a beginning, middle and end, entirely with himself,’ one commenter joked.
Another recalled a similar experience, saying a man once told her how beautiful their future children would be after just a one-hour date.
While several users fixated on his language, particularly the term ‘little princess’.
‘That’s an insane thing to call a stranger,’ one man commented.
‘I physically cringed, and I’m a dude.’
‘At least he showed you upfront exactly how unhinged he is,’ one wrote with others echoing the sentiment that seeing the worrying messages and erratic behaviour was a blessing in disguise.
Many said the exchange highlighted a broader frustration women face while navigating dating culture today.
‘The bar for men seems to be in hell, and they’re still finding ways to go lower,’ one commenter wrote.
