An influencer may be paralyzed after a diving accident left her in a serious condition and fighting for her life.

Nutritionist Flávia Bueno was left unconscious after she hit her head on a sandbar while diving into the ocean in Brazil on January 3.

According to her family, who shared a health update to social media, the 35-year-old nutritionist was at Maresias beach in São Sebastião with a friend who had dived in before her.

She was taken to a hospital after the accident occurred, before she was intubated and transferred to another medical facility due to the severity of her injuries.

Bueno underwent a CT scan, where doctors discovered she had suffered a serious spinal cord injury affecting three vertebrae, along with a brain injury caused by two mini strokes from arterial blockage following the trauma.

On January 4, Bueno was moved to a private hospital in São Paulo, where she underwent surgery to relieve pressure on her spinal cord and nerve roots.

She then underwent a second operation on January 11.

The social media star is reportedly now out of a coma and showing signs of improvement.

Her brother, Felipe, said that while she is unable to speak, she can communicate and can recognize people.

‘Thank God she is conscious and in a stable condition in the ICU,’ he said.

‘She can communicate with us without speaking, understands what’s going on, and recognizes everyone.’

However, according to a GoFundMe to cover Bueno’s medical costs, doctors say there is still a high risk of permanent paralysis.

‘Flavia has no health insurance. She remains in a private ICU, with medical costs already exceeding $200,000+ and rising every day,’ the page read.

‘She cannot yet be transferred to a public hospital because her life is still at risk.’

Bueno has 153,000 followers on Instagram, where she describes herself as someone who ‘helps you lose fat while gaining muscle.’

Before the accident, she regularly shared snaps of her toned physique, and has been described as being surrounded by ‘exercise, health, and helping others better themselves.’

Felipe is now calling on authorities to install warning signs at beaches to alert visitors to the dangers of sandbars.

‘Flávia is, above all, a determined woman, with a huge heart for others. She is also incredibly strong,’ he said.

Bueno’s social media has been filled with fans wishing her a speedy recovery.

‘Flaaa you’ll get out of this I’m sure!!! God is with you, be strong. Guys, we’re helping here, if you can, please help too,’ one urged.

Another wrote: ‘I’m sure Flavia is strong and will win this battle!’

‘A lot of strength at this moment,  she’s a Warrior!! Praying hard for her she will pull through this!’ said another.
