Honor Watch GS 5 Announced With New Heart Risk Screening Tools, Up To 23-day Battery Life

Honor has announced the Watch GS 5, its next smartwatchwith pre-orders opening in China on January 19. The company is highlighting health tracking as the main focus this time, particularly features tied to heart health.

The Watch GS 5 keeps the familiar round dial seen on earlier GS models but comes in a slimmer body. According to Honor, the watch measures 9.9mm thick and weighs 26g.

That should make it easier to wear throughout the day and overnight. Battery life is rated at up to 23 days in Bluetooth mode, which puts it among the longer-lasting smartwatches in its class.

Health features are where Honor is drawing the most attention. The company says the GS 5 includes a sudden cardiac arrest screening function, described as an industry-first. It works by analyzing heart rhythm data and related signals to flag potential risks.

There’s also a cardiovascular risk assessment feature that looks at overall heart health trends and provides early alerts when needed. As usual with smartwatch health tools, these features are meant to support awareness rather than act as medical diagnostics.

In addition, the GS 5 supports standard health tracking features such as continuous heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen (SpO2) tracking, stress monitoring, and sleep analysis. Honor hasn’t fully detailed the sensor hardware yet, though it’s expected to build on the multi-channel sensor setup used in previous GS models.

The watch also includes practical daily features, including smart reminders for flights, high-speed trains, and taxis. Display details haven’t been officially confirmed, but the design suggests continuity with earlier GS watches, which used a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen.

For comparison, the Honor Watch GS4 launched in March 2024 at a starting price of 949 yuan. Pricing for the GS 5 hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s expected to land in a similar range. With longer battery life and added heart-focused tools, the GS 5 appears aimed at users looking beyond basic fitness tracking.
