Move over, bananas — there’s a new top fruit in town. A new report from Gourmet Gift Baskets reveals that mangoes are officially America’s most-Googled fruit, reigning supreme in 40 states. Dubbed the “king of fruits,” mangoes racked up an impressive 728,563 searches in September alone, outpacing classics like bananas (377,668 searches) and oranges (360,167). Other trending favorites include strawberries, pomegranates, peaches, and cherries — but when it comes to national curiosity, mangoes clearly wear the crown.

Despite the stone fruit’s widespread popularity across the United States, the researchers do note some outliers. Folks in Maine are overwhelmingly searching for blueberries, while Wyoming residents are more interested in peaches.

Breaking down seasonal trends

How does this data compare to the previous fruit season? To find out, Gourmet Gift Baskets’ research team also compiled the top trending keywords from last quarter. Early-summer favorites, such as cherries, melons, apples, and lemons, topped searches in many states — resulting in more diverse search data — which suggests that seasonality may vary by location. However, researchers note that in many states, the most seasonal fruits in September are grapes or strawberries.
