A New Report Reveals The Most Popular Fruit In Every US State

uaetodaynews.com — A New Report Reveals the Most Popular Fruit in Every US State

  • A new report from Gourmet Gift Baskets finds mangoes are the most-searched fruit in 40 U.S. states, topping Google queries with more than 728,000 average monthly searches.
  • Seasonal trends show Americans’ fruit interests shift throughout the year, with early-summer favorites like cherries and melons giving way to late-summer mangoes and grapes.
  • While mangoes dominate nationally, some states buck the trend — Maine favors blueberries, and Wyoming searches most for peaches.

Move over, bananas — there’s a new top fruit in town. A new report from Gourmet Gift Baskets reveals that mangoes are officially America’s most-Googled fruit, reigning supreme in 40 states. Dubbed the “king of fruits,” mangoes racked up an impressive 728,563 searches in September alone, outpacing classics like bananas (377,668 searches) and oranges (360,167). Other trending favorites include strawberries, pomegranates, peaches, and cherries — but when it comes to national curiosity, mangoes clearly wear the crown.

Despite the stone fruit’s widespread popularity across the United States, the researchers do note some outliers. Folks in Maine are overwhelmingly searching for blueberries, while Wyoming residents are more interested in peaches.

Breaking down seasonal trends

How does this data compare to the previous fruit season? To find out, Gourmet Gift Baskets’ research team also compiled the top trending keywords from last quarter. Early-summer favorites, such as cherries, melons, apples, and lemons, topped searches in many states — resulting in more diverse search data — which suggests that seasonality may vary by location. However, researchers note that in many states, the most seasonal fruits in September are grapes or strawberries.

From mango sauce to sweet sticky ricethe cloying profile of ripe mango works wonderfully in many recipes. The fruit itself is just as diverse and varied as it is versatile: There are hundreds of varieties, many of which are distinct in flavor (from syrupy sweetness to floral notes) and texture. Mangos are typically in season from May through September, with states like Florida enjoying peak ripeness even into October. The stone fruit, native to South and Southeast Asia, is also grown in states like Florida, California, and Hawaii — plus, Puerto Rico.

Top-searched fruit in the United States 2025
FRUIT AVERAGE MONTHLY SEARCHES
Mango 728,563
Banana 377,688
Orange 360,167
Strawberry 313,417
Pomegranate 294,167
Peach 252,771
Cherry 186,479
Blueberry 183,167

Determining the top-searched fruits

To reach this listing, Gourmet Gift Baskets’ research team analyzed Google Keyword Planner data, a business tool on Google’s ad platform. It only provides data such as search interest and emerging online trends — so it’s important to note that this study only examines residents’ curiosity, not actual sales data. After establishing parameters for top fruit keywords (using specific terms like “green apples” and “red apples” to avoid searches related to the Cupertino-based technology giant), the researchers included key phrases like “buy” and “in season” to ensure each term was properly weighted.

“Search data captures curiosity and intent, not just purchases,” Ryan AboodGourmet Gift Baskets CEO, tells Food & Wine. “When a fruit is scarce or expensive, people may still look up recipes or health benefits — but that interest often stalls at the grocery aisle if it isn’t accessible or affordable.”

Admittedly, Gourmet Gift Baskets has some skin in the game. The retailer, founded in 2002 in New Hampshire, offers nationwide delivery on curated care packages — many filled with fruit. The company began in Abood’s family flower shop basement and remains a family-run operation today. According to its website, more than 4,700 gift packages have been purchased in the past 10 days.

Although Gourmet Gift Baskets doesn’t seem to have any packages with mangos, we’ve got a few more ideas in mind.
