Martha Stewart Reveals Her Daily Green Juice Recipe

Martha Stewart Reveals Her Daily Green Juice Recipe

Want to start your day like Martha Stewart? It might take some discipline and an aptitude for crossword puzzles, but don’t worry — this culinary icon’s morning routine also includes delicious daily traditions.

On a recent episode of the beauty and wellness-focused podcast Lipstick on the RimStewart revealed that her mornings begin with waking up bright and early around 4:00–4:30 a.m. before reading the entirety of the New York Times — and doing the puzzles, of course — and heading to the gym to work out with her personal trainer or Pilates teacher.

I’m not sure I’ll be capable of regularly waking up at 4:00 a.m. (or hiring a personal Pilates instructor) anytime soon, but Martha Stewart also shared what she eats and drinks each morning, and that’s a routine I’ll undoubtedly aspire to. Her coffee of choice is a cappuccino — made with “farm whole milk” and “none of those fake milks” — and she pairs it with a fresh, homemade green juice.

If you, like me, want to know the secrets behind this culinary legend’s success, she shared the recipe for her signature green juice so we can all recreate it at home.

On her sprawling 153-acre farm in Bedford, New York, Stewart has an extensive array of gardens and greenhouses, growing everything from edible crops to beautiful flowers. You’ll also find quite a few animals, including her own chickens and some Friesian horses she recently rescued.

Stewart’s green juice, naturally, starts with fresh ingredients sourced from her own farm. The businesswoman and culinary legend tells Lipstick on the Rim hosts Molly Sims and Emese Gormley that “I grow all my vegetables, my spinach, my parsley, my cucumbers.

“Ginger is in it. Half an orange with the peel. Lots of celery and celery leaves. It’s a fragrant, delicious juice. And it’s in a juicer, not in a juice extractor.”

This isn’t a sweet green juice; the flavor profile will be vegetal, refreshing, and bright, with a hint of heat from the ginger and a hint of bitterness from the orange peel.

The terms “juicer” and “juice extractor” are often used interchangeably, so it’s difficult to say exactly what difference in appliances Stewart is referring to, but she’s previously mentioned that she uses a Breville juicer to make her usual green beverage.

Although she didn’t mention it while speaking with Sims and Gormley, Stewart has occasionally included a bit of mint or a piece of fruit, such as pineapple, in her green juice in the past. If you’re craving something a touch more herbal or tart and sweet, feel free to add those in.

Whether you follow her recipe precisely or customize it to suit your tastes, you’ll still be starting your day like Martha Stewart if you begin it with a green juice.

Just make sure you follow it up with breakfast like she does. The cookbook author opts for yogurt (which she makes herself) with wheat germ or an egg — fresh from her own farm, of course.
